Every 15 seconds in our country a woman is battered by her intimate partner.
95% of all domestic assaults are committed by men.
85% of all batterers as children watched domestic violence occur in their own homes and/or experienced child physical /sexual abuse themselves.
50% of all willful homicides of females are committed by a past or present intimate partner.
63% of all boys, ages 11-20, who are arrested for murder, have killed the man who was assaulting their mother.
20% of all murders (4,000 + each year) are domestic violence related.

The Center for Disease Control’s Epidemiology of Violence unit reports that more women seek treatment for abuse, than auto accidents, muggings, and rape combined.
Battering is the single major cause of injury to women. They also found that women in the U. S. are 9 times more in danger in their homes than in the street.
Every 5 years, more women are killed because of domestic violence than Americans were killed during the entire Vietnam War.
There are over 3,800 shelters for abused animals in our country. There are 1,200 shelters for battered women and their children.

Some of the services that Genesis House Inc. provides to victims of domestic violence are shelter, supportive housing, transitional apartments, rape/sexual assault response center, confidential examinations, counseling, support groups, court appearance support, referrals, and 24-hour telephone access to trained staff.
